Famous Faces Join Campaign To Spread Awareness On Ovarian Cancer

Joan Collins and Tamzin Outhwaite are doing their bit to raise awareness about Ovarian Cancer as the annual Awareness month drive began this week. //It is a nice gesture that celebrities are lending their support to help spread knowledge about a disease, which is called "silent killer" in medical circles.

"For too long ovarian cancer has been known as the 'silent killer', but research now shows that, even in the early stages, most women do experience some persistent symptoms," a spokeswoman for the campaign said. "We are aiming to raise awareness about ovarian cancer and generate funds to go towards vital research into the disease, which is currently diagnosed in 7,000 women in the UK each year." The association of famous faces is an attempt to break the shackles especially since this year's message is 'Breaking the Silence'. Ovarian cancer has improved prognosis if detected and treated early and it is this fact that the campaign aims to inform women. "I feel that all women should be made aware of the signs and symptoms of this dreadful disease. Research is essential if we are ever going to find a way to combat it. Please buy a pin badge in support," said Joan Collins referring to the Wellbeing of Women pin badges that are being distributed across the country in a bid to raise funds for "vital medical research into the disease." Tamzin Outhwaite said that she hoped her association with the campaign would encourage women to seek early help, "I hope that by supporting this campaign and helping to raise awareness of persistent symptoms, I can encourage women to be more proactive and go and see their GP as soon as possible, as well as helping to raise money to support ovarian cancer research," she said. Wellbeing of Women pins are available from the website at www.wellbeing.org.uk
