The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a creation of the Imitrex Injection that enables patients to consume a 4mg dosage, // named as the Imitrex STAT dose System ? used to treat severe migraines in adults in the presence or absence of aura.

Migraine is known to be a common ailment for as many as 28 million Americans suffers from migraine headaches. The treatments for migraines differ according to the intensity of the attack and hence vary from patient to patient. Since migraine attacks vary in its severity, it is imperative to enable patients with various treatment options.

Though oral medication is effective in certain cases, sometimes an injection might be more appropriate when the intensity of the attack is severe.

Morning migraines begin for patients as early as the waking hours when patients awaken with a moderate to severe headache. Statistics have it that an average of 48% headaches attack between 4 am and 9 am.

Migraines are also accompanied by nausea and vomiting in almost 48% of the cases. Migraines are also known to accelerate in intensity, and in such cases an injection is known to alleviate the pain.

Robert Kaniecki, MD, director of The Headache Center at the University of Pittsburgh and assistant professor of neurology, said, “ Imitrex Injection is now an effective option for patients with certain types of migraines and Migraine patients who experience nausea or vomiting with their headaches, often require an injection, since oral treatments are typically not well tolerated by these patients. Additionally, injections bypass the digestive system and enter the bloodstream quickly, which is especially important for treating certain migraine attacks, such as morning and rapidly escalating migraines.”
