Eyeglass Guide Launched That Aids in Choosing the Right Eyewear

Transitions Optical, Inc. announced the release of its Eyeglass Guide -- a unique resource designed to aid consumers in making educated choices hen selecting their eyeglasses. Created with input from expert eyecare professionals across the country, this resource provides critical information to lead consumers through the process of selecting glasses that best enhance and protect their short-and long-term vision.

Eyeglassguide offers information about UV-blocking lenses, visiting your eyecare professional, understanding your prescription, and caring for your eyes. Also on this site is an interactive lifestyle and eye health quiz that offers customized eyewear advice on primary pair choices, lens design and material, frame style recommendations, and a variety of other features.

The Eyeglass Guide is one of many educational resources that Transitions has recently developed as part of its ongoing effort to educate consumers about the importance of eye health. The guide provides information about lens material choices and vision-optimizing enhancements, such as anti-reflective coatings, polarized lenses and photochromic or UV-blocking lenses, like Transitions(R) lenses -- that automatically darken to block 100% of the sun's eye-damaging rays. In addition, the guide provides several tips on selecting frame shape, color and material best suited for the individual.

"Transitions' eyeglassguide not only educates consumers about the different lens and frame options available, but also encourages dialogue among customers and their eyecare professionals to identify eyewear that fits their lifestyle, prescription, and eye and medical history," said Dr. Craig Tisch, O.D., Penn Optical Group. "With more than 3.2 million people each year suffering from preventable forms of blindness, it's critical for everyone to be vigilant in getting regular eye exams and to do all they can to protect the health of their eyes -- both now and in the future," Tisch added.

According to Tisch, the guide will encourage consumers to think of their glasses as more than just a means of correcting their vision, but as a way to enhance and protect their vision.

In addition to the Web site, the public will have access to a hard copy of the guide through inserts in leading national health, home, active lifestyle and general interest publications. Through this effort, the guide will reach more than 45 million readers.
