In yet another shocking news in the medical fraternity comes the incident that here is sale of unscreened body parts to surgery patients in Windsor. //

The incident came to light when 21 surgery patients were operated upon with unscreened products, obtained by a U.S. tissue bank known as Biomedical Tissue Services Limited, based in New Jersey. The patients were informed by the administration of Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital.

The major concern is that the body parts were unscreened for HIV 1 and 2, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and human T-cell lymphotropic virus, or HTLV I and II.

The incident has been taken very seriously and all patients were personally notified. Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital has offered health screening tests and follow-up aid to some family physicians of those involved.

Providing no details he simply said that the surgeries pertained to procedures where the tissue or bone material was used was in back or hip surgeries.

Some patients expressed concern over national TV and one client with her attorney appeared on TV. That lady through her attorney said that she is concerned about her health and that of her family, and she was scheduled to undergo blood testing yesterday to determine if she has cause for alarm stemming from spinal fusion surgery in late 2004. "She is fearful and worried.” Were her exact words.

Patients are being consoled yet the hospital has no clue of the infections that could be caused. Health Canada expressed concern over the fact that why did the authorities wait three months for taking any action.
