Toronto - A lucid vision statement enabled by the chiefs of Emergency medical services has underlined the need for enhancement of community based healthcare, which will// result in reduction of healthcare costs as well as ensure the future of paramedical services in Canada.

Group president Bruce Farr expressed that paramedics are skilled to diagnose and treat patients in the community. They are equipped to distinguish the emergency care patients and those in need of healthcare facilities. Most often paramedics don’t go the extra mile due to legal hassles.

According to the president, hospitals these days are over crowded. To avoid this, the role of paramedics needs to be spruced up to include-caring for the homeless, administering flu and hepatitis B jabs, and injury-prevention programs.

'It's really time to look at how we can branch out and be a complete part of the health-care system and help out in areas such as preventative medicine. It’s those kinds of things that help save the overall health-care system in terms of dollars and cents and helps take people out of the emergency department,' the President said.

The report has advised the institution of standardized paramedic training, also permitting the transfer of credentials between provinces. The organization has suggested to policy makers to expand the role of paramedics, while ensuring enough support to the endeavors initiated between paramedics, medical professionals and public safety groups.
