Brussels: It is no exaggeration that bird flu has thrown Europe’s poultry industry into doldrums. An urgent call has been issued by European Union countries// for emergency aid to provide succor to the struggling poultry producers. The Union is also at its wits end trying ways to reassure fearful consumers.

The EU's executive branch would be subsidizing the production costs of chicks and eggs by almost half, to prop up the prices of poultry, that had a steep fall after impoverished consumption followed fears of bird-flu.

Financial assistance will be provided, by way of purchasing the piling stock of unconsumed chicken, and spending on advertising campaigns, that will bring back the lost glory to poultry and will also spread the safety of European Chicken.

The EU agriculture commissioner, Mariann Fischer Boel, said This is directly linked to consumers reacting to the news related to avian influenza. This type of crisis cannot be handled effectively within the existing framework. She also said that fears about bird flu, resulted in piling of stocks, nearly 50,000 tones of meat products in Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands.

Michael Mann, a spokesman for Fischer Boel, said There is obviously a lack of consumer information because at present there is no bird flu on any farms in the European Union And chicken is perfectly safe to eat if you cook it.
