Erectile Dysfunction After Prostate Cancer Surgery can Be Remedied With Nerve Grafts

New York – Some men who become impotent after prostate cancer surgery may find reprieve from this problem with implants of nerve grafts into the penis,// which assists in restoring the lost erectile function, according to a new report by researchers.

These findings came to light after a study of nearly 44 patient records, who had undergone the said procedure to restore erectile function, following its loss after treatment for prostate cancer.

Dr. Fernando P. Secin and his associates in The Journal of Urology have confirmed that patients reported satisfactory erections after the nerve graft implant. The researchers used both the sural nerve and the genitofemoral nerve, yet they felt the latter is a better option, due to less hassles after surgery.

The researchers rated the outcomes of genitofemoral nerve grafts as very high compared to the use of sural nerve grafts. They also opine that bilateral cavernous nerve grafts will be more helpful to patients.
