Envisaged Specialty Training Programme For Junior Doctors Encounters a Speed Breaker

A UK-wide Specialty training programme, aiming to Modernize Medical Careers, for Junior Doctors is facing a stumbling block, even before the commencement of the program//; Doctors from Scotland have sought a clarification mainly about logistics, specialty subjects and whether doctors will be given the option of choosing a convenient location. They have put up these requests in a letter addressed to the Scottish Junior Doctors Committee (SJDC) asking for immediate clarifications or a nation-wide delay in the commencement of the programme.

Dr Graeme Eunson, chairman of the British Medical Association's SJDC, said: "Implementation of specialty training represents the biggest single threat to the future of our trainees and their careers in decades. Until recently we believed that implementation of the programme in Scotland was on track and would work, however, we now know that this is only the case for some specialties. Unless all specialties are prepared and take a consistent approach, this new training programme will fail."

An executive spokesman offering a peek into what is in store, said that Doctors would certainly be enabled with a choice of location for training, and all other clarifications that have been sought would be addressed soon.
