Electropathy Doctors in Kashmir Decry Government Apathy

Doctors qualified in Electropathy, an alternative system of medicine, are continuing their protest here in support of their demand for jobs in state-run hospitals.

The system treats diseases through the use of electricity.

The doctors, who have been staging protests for over two months, complain that the authorities have not taken any note of their demands.

The doctors also want to meet Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad with their demands. They, however, have not been able to get an appointment. We cannot understand this," said Shahid, a doctor, who has been agitating.

Electropathy and Naturopathy are alternative systems of medicine, but not recognized by various state governments or the Indian Medical Council.

Protesters argue that Amchis, doctors practicing the Tibetan traditional medicine widely prevalent in Ladakh region, are anyway recognised by the State Government in Jammu and Kashmir and have been given jobs in government hospitals.
