Electroconvulsive Therapy Is The Treatment For Depression

Scientists at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland after an extensive research said that shock therapy//, the treatment for mental depression is the most effective therapy.

This research extended for a period of five long years and is a through one.

It removes the common assumption that this therapy results in suicidal behavior, but on the other hand facilitates conditions that would stabilize state of the patient.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is also called as shock therapy.

Depression is very common among the new generation affecting 17% of the population. It is more common among women and lead to deaths among the patient.

The problem of the growing number of people suffering from depression is due to the fact that they don’t report it to their doctors. About 50% only seek medical help from the experts.

The recent study by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says that certain anti depressants like serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) results in increased suicidal behavior.

But this was proved wrong by the studies conducted by the scientists at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. They suggested these anti depressants and shock therapy are the only treatment of option available and their advantages outweigh their risks.

The doctors say that anti depressants might induce suicidal tendencies during the acute phase but as such there is no proof to support the statement.
