Elderly Become Conscious About Their Looks

According to a recent survey it was found that people who were in their sixties have become increasingly conscious about the way they look//. This resulted in an increase in the rates of cosmetic surgery. The TV programmes have also played their parts in creating awareness among the procedures used in these surgeries. Statistics show that there is a 40 % increase in the number of men and women in their sixties having cosmetic surgery over the last year.

The most sort after cosmetic surgery is eyelid reductions, which account for 38 % of operations followed by facelifts which make up 28 %, breast reduction (8%) and tummy tucks and liposuction, which make up 6% and 5 % respectively. Dr Annabel Bentley said that cosmetic surgery is on the rise as there is an increase in the ageing population and the way they look. But she also cautioned about the risk of having an operation at the age of sixty. Risk of the operation increase when the patient is older and suffers from various chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, chest problems or diabetes. This results in longer wound healing time period. On the other hand it is just not women but men are also enticed by cosmetic surgery. The common procedures they go in for are nose reshaping, eyelid reduction and correction of prominent ears. It has increased their self esteem and they enjoy it thoroughly.
