Elderberries the drug against bird flu in humans?

Bird flu has now killed more than 80 people in Asia and many countries fear that it might one day result in a pandemic.

Hence various researches are been done to develop a new dug to combat the disease. //

Researchers at the Retroscreen Virology institute have found that Sambucol (an extract from elderberries) is very efficient in reducing the spread of virus in the cells.

This is found to be 99% effective but they also said that more research has to be done to confirm the effectiveness of the newly found drug.

H5N1 the deadly strain of the virus is the main culprit and researchers fear that it might mutate in to a form, which will be easily contracted from person to person.

Before anything of that sort could happen all the countries are pilling up antiviral drugs that could reduce the severity of the disease.

Researchers say that it would take about six months to develop a vaccine for the bird flu and hence the best way is to follow all the precautionary measures and avoid contracting the disease.
