Dundee United’s Chairman, Eddie Thompson, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer three years ago is now undergoing more advanced treatment// for the disease at Ninewells Hospital.

In a statement released by the Tannadice club officials on his behalf last night, details of his illness were released putting an end to the growing speculation in the media about his health.

The new treatment began at Ninewells Hospital last week following blood tests that indicated that disease has become aggressive and spread to the bones. Mr. Thompson has been put on a new course of advanced hormone treatment. He was treated with radiotherapy in the past, but that had proved unsuccessful.

In statement released last night, Mr. Thompson thanked the management and staff at the Ninewells Hospital and has stated that the current illness was not affecting his duties at the club in anyway and that he was putting in the same hours as before.

The statement also quoted him as saying that “I’m still as dedicated to the club as ever and in my support for the manager and his ambitions. I’ve helped the club with short-term cash flow problems in the past and will continue to do so. This will also include additional finance for the manager to strengthen his playing squad."
