Early Detection Of Prostate Cancer For Complete Recovery From Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer affecting men and occurs in men 65 years or older. It is advised that Men above the age of 50 years should undergo the routine examination of prostate and also test for presence of // Prostate Specific Antigen, by monitoring the levels of PSA in blood. African-American men or men with a family history of the disease should begin regular prostate screening exams at an earlier age. Signs and symptoms of prostate cancer include changes in urinary flow (such as increased frequency, urgency or hesitancy), frequent night time urination, painful urination and blood in the urine.

Many treatment options are available for treatment of prostate cancer, prostate cancer can be easily cured if detected early and therapy is started. The treatment options depend up on the cancer stage and spread of the cancer. Hormone therapy, Prostate Surgery, external beam radiation therapy, radiation seed implants and proton beam therapy. September month is the world Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and various organizations are spreading information about early detection of prostate cancer in men.

“If caught early, prostate cancer is very treatable and often curable,” said Louis Harrison, M.D., Chair of the ASTRO Communications Committee and a radiation oncologist at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. “Men over the age of 50 should have a regular screening; and if diagnosed with prostate cancer, it’s important that patients understand all of their treatment options by talking with several specialists, including a radiation oncology and an urologist.”
