Drug Combination Offers Hope in Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis Treatment

A study conducted by researchers at Washington University has highlighted a new combination drug treatment for asthma and chronic bronchitis. The new treatment modality claims to even restore normal breathing in affected individuals. //

Experiments conducted on animal models have revealed promising findings, the results of which can soon to integrated to human beings as well. The dual drug combination is believed to enhance airway function by the inhibition of cells associated with overproduction of mucus that blocks the airway.

The protein activity of the mucus secreting cells is impaired, thereby restoring the original architecture of the lining of the airway, according to Dr Michael Holtzman, senior researcher involved in the study. The results of this study can be found in the latest issue of Journal of Clinical Investigation.

Presently, the lack of proper available therapy for the treatment of excess mucus build up in individuals with breathing disorder necessitates the development of specialized treatment techniques for the same.
