Drinking, Smoking And Unhealthy Food Linked To Mouth Cancer In Young People

Report says that young people are increasingly getting affected by mouth disease and mouth cancer. The reasons have been linked to increased smoking, drinking and eating of unhealthy foods by young//. The survey points out that frequent check up of mouths by dentist or physician is required to be done by the young, as early detection and frequent examination will diagnose early symptoms of cancer which could be helpful for curing mouth cancer.

As it was thought that older people are the one who are most probable to get mouth cancer, due to life style change in food, smoking and drinking young people are more vulnerable to mouth cancer; women are as equal to men in development of mouth cancer. Mouth cancer affects the lips, tongue, cheeks and throat. Poor diet, smoking and drinking people are more than 30 times likely to develop the disease.

Leading a healthy life by avoiding alcohol, smoking and having a balanced diet does not cause any risk of mouth cancer, the first signs of mouth cancer is developing a non-healing mouth ulcer or a red or white patch in the mouth. Self-examination weekly is required and a mouth examination by a dentist or physician is required for every six months, which can help in early diagnosis of mouth cancer.

Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the BDHF, said, "In the UK, mouth cancer kills one person every five hours and it is no longer just older males who need to be worried about developing mouth cancer - the condition can strike anyone.
