Patna: A doctor in a Bihar village was Monday battling for life after he was beaten by mobs, furious that a patient bitten by a snake had died during treatment. //
Dr. Satish Chandra Sharma, who was beaten virtually within an inch of his life at Sursand in Sitamarhi district, was in a coma, officials said.
The incident took place Sunday, when Sharma's clinic was vandalised and set on fire by furious crowds.
Shambhu Shah, a shop owner, was taken to Sharma after a snake bite. He reportedly died while Sharma was performing first aid.
This enraged the villagers, who arrived at the clinic in large numbers and destroyed his office. The crowd then chased the doctor and snatched his licensed revolver before beating him black and blue.
The police, after arriving on the troubled spot, opened fire to contain the violent crowd injuring five people in the process.
