Totada R Shantha veerappa , a medical practitioner of Indian origin in the US has pleaded not guilty of treating cancer patients with unauthorized drugs and insecticides // . He was released from custody after providing a bond of US$ 100,000 by an Atlanta court. His assistant Dan Bartoli has also been released.

The State Medical Board contends that his continued practice poses a threat to the public, leading to his suspension. The doctor also known as T R Shantha has also been accused of insurance fraud and money laundering. The doctor along with his assistant are reported to have used the insecticide Chemail Ukrain, weed killer Dinitrophenol and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The Medical Board of Georgia State has suspended the license of the doctor who calls himself an alternative healer.

Dan Conaway, the lawyer of the doctor has said that the clinic of the suspended medical practitioner will remain open. Shantha is not known to have any adverse records until date. One of the patients he treated in 2001 with a high dosage of methotrexate is reported to have died as a result of this. Some of the drugs that he used are also not approved in the US. But many of his patients claim that their lives had been saved due to Shantha’s treatment, and where traditional drugs had failed.
