Nutritionally balanced food will be served at the domestic theme parks of the Walt Disney Co. The company has announced that it would sign movie// and other endorsement deals only with restaurants that t\restrict the sugar and fat content in their menu items.

Disney will put the new guidelines into practice in a few years. According to it, by the end of 2007, the trans-fats will be completely removed from the meals at domestic parks and by 2008, it will be eliminated from licensed and promotional products.

Disney CEO, Robert Iger said, “The move comes in response to comments from parents about the eating habits of their children. The company is well aware of the huge responsibility we have, given our reach and our ability to impact people's behavior and opinions." Iger said, “The company also sees a business opportunity in promoting and licensing healthier products, ranging from breakfast cereals to the children's meals it serves at its 11 worldwide theme parks.”

Disney's new food guidelines, developed in conjunction with doctors will restrict the total calories. Kids will get smaller portions and restrictions will be something like 30% of calories on entrees and side dishes, 35% on snacks. The limit for saturated fat will be at 10% of calories for main dishes, side dishes and snacks, and restrict sugar to 10% of calories for main dishes and side dishes, and 25% of calories for snacks.

In the mean time, French fries and soft drinks in the kid’s meal at Disney's domestic parks are being replaced by low-fat milk, 100 % fruit juice, or water, along with side dishes like apple sauce or carrots, from the beginning of this month.

But parents can have soda or fries at no extra cost.
