Disclose calorie count on menu says NY Health Department

In their bid to combat the alarming rise in obesity in New York the health department is leaving no stones unturned in their efforts to make the public learn to be cautious and// conscious of what they eat and how that would effect their waistlines in retrospect.

As part of their crusade to crackdown on obesity the health department plans to issue an order to all restaurants with regular fixed portions to list the calorie value of food items along with the menu cards at the table of the diners.

This suggestion coincides with the decision by the city officials to impose rules to stop the use of oils rich in trans fatty acids for cooking in restaurants which was seriously discussed and given much publicity following the decision of KFC a global giant in Fast foods to completely switch over to trans fat free cooking oils soon.

This decision has caused many big players in fast food business to groan in protest in fear of losing customers and having to deal with longer waiting lines if they have to start explaining to each customer the calorie specifications of each.

The Board of Health has decided to take a vote this December to reach a decision regarding this proposal to label calorie content on menus which will then have to be implemented by restaurants within 6 months there after..
