Diabetes risk offset with sips of coffee?

Recent research conducted on 28,000 postmenopausal women has shown that those who indulged in six or more cups of coffee a day//, were benefited by a 3 percent reduction in risk of type 2 diabetes, vis a vis those who avoided coffee completely.

Though the scientists were not able to place their finger on the key factor in coffee that offset the diabetes risk, yet they strongly feel that the presence of antioxidants and minerals in coffee contributes in great measure in delaying or cutting down the risk of illness.

Lead researcher Dr. Pereira said "The thing about coffee that sets it apart from many other dietary factors that may protect against diabetes is that people consume a lot of it. We can see the effect because we're able to study massive doses of it."

The study has been published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
