Dentist Banned From Practicing For Allowing Boyfriend to Work on Patients

LONDON - 39-year-old Mogjan Azari, a dentist who was jailed for one year in 2005, has now been struck off the register and is banned from practicisig. Azari allowed her boyfriend Omid Amidi-Mazaheri, who was unqualified to practice //on her patients with devastating consequences.

Mazaheri practiced on Azari's patients without using an anesthetic and placed fillings that barely lasted for days. On one occasion he broke a syringe in a patient's mouth with a part of it lodged in the patient's throat. The unlikely dentist couple garnered ￡120,000 out of this fraud and even brought for themselves a Mercedes sports car. An investigation was launched into the pair's activities last year and Azari was summoned before the General Dental Council in Central London. Her boyfriend had no qualification and had learnt minimal techniques while working as a dental technician in a lab. It was found that Amidi acquired a lease for a surgery in Dog Kennel Hill, East Dulwich. An elderly dentist by name Johannes Kidane was the original dentist in that surgery. Amidi impersonated this elderly dentist and carried on this way so that he could treat 600 patients registered with Kidane. When detectives finally cornered the pair, both blamed the other for their problems. Jonathan Barnard, who defended Azari, said that she was mistreated by Amidi and was terrified of him. But her license has nevertheless been cancelled.
