Dental appointment fear: is it gender specific?

You were always scared of going to the dentists, but did you know that //whether you are a man or a woman can affect the way you feel scared about dental appointments?

A new study done by researchers of University of Toronto emphasize that although women are 2.5 times as likely to be afraid of dentists than men, men too are as likely to eel afraid, only they’ll admit it less.

In the first ever nation wide study of Canadian nationals about fears and tension regarding dental appointments, researchers have found out that fear in men often remain unreported. The researchers feel that healthy young men have also fainted often in the office of the dentists, only they are less likely to ever admit it, even to themselves.

The results said that only 5.5% of the total 1,100 Canadians surveyed admitted being afraid of visiting dentists. However 1.5million people may have cancelled or avoided a dental appointment in their lifetime in Canada. One of the reasons for avoiding a dentist appointment might be pain, as 12.4% wanted painless tooth extraction or treatment and 42.3% wanted cheaper ways to opt for anesthesia.
