( With dengue viral fever and malarial a...)Dengue In City: KMC To Appoint 30 Contract Doctors,Health

With dengue, viral fever and malarial attacks reported in the city areas, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation today decided to appoint 30 doctors on contract and engage para-medical staff to attend to the afflicted//.

KMC's Mayor-in-Council (Health) Subodh De said that only dengue cases were reported in south Kolkata and civic staff had fanned out for surveillance in the affected areas.

The civic body, De said, had arranged blood tests at the School of Tropical Medicine and National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED).

Altogether 3,432 case of dengue, the most common viral disease which strikes during the monsoon and post-monsoon every year, had been detected last year in the KMC area.

The mosquito-borne disease had claimed 12 lives last monsoon.

Stating that there was no cause of concern with the situation well under control, De said that the KMC staff had been asked to detect stored water in construction sites, in particular, which were mosquito breeding centres.

In Borough X only, 1,000 notices had been served on the house owners to remove stored water.
