Another dengue death was reported in the capital, taking the toll to 25 Saturday while 95 new patients were admitted to city hospitals.//

The total number of dengue cases in Delhi has now risen to 1,373.

The latest victim of the mosquito-borne viral disease was 25-year-old Farahan of Delhi. She was brought to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) here Friday and died in the early hours of Saturday, said medical officials.

Senior officials of the Delhi health ministry Saturday inspected the worst affected areas of the city, close to the Yamuna river, to ascertain the possible cause of the rising dengue menace.

"We found that most of the cases being reported now are from colonies close to Yamuna river," said D.S. Negi, Delhi's health secretary. He added that of the 95 cases reported in the past 24-hours, over 40 cases were from the central zone, near the river.

"We will deploy additional manpower and complete the fogging and fumigation of the area so that there is some respite from the virus," said Negi.

The number of dengue cases at AIIMS also saw an increase as 39 new patients were admitted even as 34 were discharged Saturday.

"We are providing treatment to 165 patients in total," said D.K. Sharma, medical superintendent of AIIMS.

The total number of confirmed dengue cases across India stands at 4,828 and the virus has claimed 93 lives so far, with 25 of them from the national capital alone.

Of the cases reported in Delhi, many are from the neighbouring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Apart from Delhi some of the other areas where the mosquito-borne disease has spread its tentacles are Kerala (794), Rajasthan (456), Gujarat (441), West Bengal (405), Uttar Pradesh (349) Tamil Nadu (307), Punjab (250), Maharashtra (240), Haryana (100), Karnataka (90) and Andhra Pradesh (27).
