Death Of Woman Following Family Planning Operation Creates Panic

The shocking report of death of a woman in Gopinathpur village after she underwent a family planning surgery at a primary health center camp has created much panic and confusion in the Kendrapara district. //

The victim, identified as Jayanti Mohapatra is said to have been operated (tubectomy) as a part of the health camp, held in Badakula village on Monday. According to the victim’s husband, Sudarshan, Jayanti had complaints of severe abdominal pain after the surgery. No medical help was however instituted to her.

A case (FIR) has been filed against the surgeons who performed the medical procedure. It has been lodged by Sudarshan at the Patakura police station. In addition, police personnel have been deployed around the health care center. The autopsy result is expected to be released soon.

Usha Pattanaik, Chief District Medical Officer has stated that necessary legal action would be instituted against those found guilty.
