United Kingdom: Mercy Killing should be mercilessly shot down, according to a newly formed group of Human Rights and Health Group activists. The group’s mandate is to communicate this idea to the government and veto any recommendation that purports to introduce assisted // suicide / euthanasia in the United Kingdom.

The Care Not Killing team comprising of Human rights groups based in UK, palliative care organisations, groups based on faith, and health groups have joined hands to enhance the quality of palliative care while vehemently denouncing euthanasia and physician assisted killing. Their conviction to reject euthanasia has gained momentum following the death of Dr Anne Turner, who afflicted by a terminal disease had travelled to Switzerland with a motive to seek assistance to end her life.

The CNK group have it on the top of their agenda to oppose any Bill by the Parliament in the UK, that intends to legalise euthanasia and physician assisted suicide for the terminally ill. The collective force of the CNK group that has recently inducted 18 other organisations into its fold, with 20 more slated to join the alliance, holds promise for the cause it holds dear. The association for Palliative care Medicine and the British Council of Disabled people are among the new entrants into the CNK group. The chairman of the Association of Palliative Medicine, Mr John Wiles has communicated the urgency to spread the need for quality palliative care but has opposed any changes to existing laws.
