Researchers at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey have come up with the novel idea that dancing abilities are related to determining the quality of mate in humans.//

Dance has always been an important factor in choosing mates among many animal species. Impressive dancers attract more mates and desirable ones too.

Rutgers in association with computer scientist at the University of Washington had come up with computer animated figures which replicated 183 Jamaican teenagers between the age group of 14-19 years who were dancing to their favourite music.

The animated figures were faceless, were of equal size and gender neutral. Then their peers were asked to access the dancing abilities of these animated figures.

Body symmetry also played an equally important role in attracting a potential mate. Hence in this research also body symmetry was taken into consideration.

The results were that greater the body symmetry better were they rated. For this research a special technique called the motion capture technology was used to separate dance movements from other variables like clothing, body features and attractiveness.

It was also identified that symmetric males scored higher than the females and the female evaluators rated them higher than the male evaluators.

It was also noted that symmetrical men danced very well and was noticed more by women. Hence it was concluded that dance which plays an important role in choosing mates in the animal species also plays an important role in humans.
