Dairy Intake Relates With Twins Birth – Research Find

According to a study conducted by Gary Steinman, (M.D. of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York) high dairy consumption //in women links with twins birth.

This study not only reported about eating habits of dairy products but also about women who doesn’t consume animal foods (vegan).

Synthetic growth hormone insulin-like growth factor (IGF), present in dairy products namely milk may be a reason for the link - Steinman believed.

Ovarian sensitivity found to be increased by IGF in milk when consumed by women. Thus more ovulation results which paves way to higher amount of egg being released from the ovary.

When comparing vegan and dairy-consuming women for blood levels of IGF, the latter scores over 13 percent.

Rate of twin birth have raised probably since 1975, which may be due to advanced reproductive technology – some other research say.

Steinman's study, is the initial one to dealt with this kind which relates diet and twin birth. He added increased twin baby for black women may be linked with high IGF levels.

Complications like premature delivery, congenital defects and pregnancy-induced hypertension are more deeply associated with multiple gestations rather than with singleton mothers.

Since bovine recombinant growth hormone (rBST) is being added to dairy products many cases of twin births may have resulted. Some say it may even be related to heredity or environmental factors - Steinman added.

IVF, breast feeding practice may all have a role to play in the delivery of twin babies and it seem to have more complication related to health concerns.

Thus, Steinman advice women’s to have soy or organic milk, which was supposed to lack IGF.
