California – A kind of Omega-3 fatty acid called DHA, present in fish, eggs, organ meats, fortified foods and food supplements assists in delaying// the arrival of Alzheimer's disease.

Scientists from the University of California conducted a study on mice to investigate the effects of DHA; they found that DHA reduced the levels of the protein called beta amyloid, which comes together to form plaques in the brain.

Study co-author Frank LaFerla said, “We are greatly excited by these results, which show us that simple changes in diet can positively alter the way the brain works and lead to protection from Alzheimer's disease pathology.”

Kim Green, the lead author of this study was extremely hopeful of the power of mental stimulation, exercise, and a good diet with DHA, as a method to delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

This study is published in The Journal of Neuroscience.
