For those who love artery-busting wild rides and artery- clogging munches, it's not a fat deal.//
Universal Studios of US is following moves made by New York restaurants, and cutting out trans-fats from certain adult and children dishes at its theme parks.
Christmas eve saw the start of this change and there are plans by the studio to make all of its theme parks 100 per cent trans fat free by 2007.
Food scientists have experimented for months to find trans- fat alternatives, holding blind taste tests with customers and using their feedback to create menus with more variety, including fruit juices and skim milk, according to Universal Studios' officials.
Trans-fats are hydrogenated vegetable oils, used in the food industry to make processed foods taste better, as well as increase their shelf life.
Why they are not good is because like saturated fats, they too cause blockages of arteries leading to obesity and heart conditions. They increase the level of bad cholesterol and decrease the level of good cholesterol.
The average American eats almost 2.2 kilos of trans-fats a year.
Earlier this month, New York City became the first U.S. city to ban artificial trans-fats in restaurant foods.
Reviews made on the move by Universal Studios have indicated positive feedback from regulars.
Says twelve-year-old Jack Xu, about his french fries: 'It tastes drier and not too salty,' but,'I still like it.'
