A threat from certain organizations that couples making a public display of their affection here on Valentine's Day would be forced to enter into// wedlock has been welcomed by some young lovers.

Youngsters have got over the initial shock at the announcement on a Valentine's Day crackdown on lovers by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Shiv Sena.

The move is now being welcomed by courting couples, who are thanking the moral police for adding velocity to Cupid's arrows.

"It is indeed good news. We must thank them for being concerned about our marriages," said Ruchika, a student of a management institute in this Jharkhand capital. "My parents will finally come to know about my love."

Priya, an engineering student, echoed similar sentiments, saying: "I hope they stick to their word and ensure my marriage with my boyfriend."

Thoughts of elopement are banished as romantic partners are hoping they will have support in persuading their parents about the suitability of their life mates.

Apart from making it easier for mates to tie the knot with societal approval, the move will arrest the dowry system to a considerable extent, said college student Pankaj.

The ABVP, VHP and the Shiv Sena have said their cadres will step up vigil at parks, restaurants and other spots on Valentine's Day. Whenever a couple is spotted, their parents will be summoned and ordered to solemnize their marriage.

However, there is a section of youth that is opposed to the diktat and is on the look-out for isolated spots for romantic rendezvous on Feb 14.
