Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss inaugurated today a videoconference system for counseling of seat allotment for medical and dental courses. This is the first time that the counseling is being done through videoconference connecting Delhi, Puducherry and Kolkata.
DGHS is entrusted with the responsibility of allotting 15% All India Quota of MBBS/BDS courses and 50% All India quota of PG courses (MD/MS, PG Diploma & MDS) by the Honble Supreme Court of India. In this allotment system, all MCI recognized Medical & Dental colleges (except in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu &Kashmir) participate. First round of seat allotment for the MBBS/BDS courses start on 15th June 2007 and will end on 26th June, 07.

Total no. of participating dental colleges: 25
Total no. of MBBS seats (15% All India quota): 1520
Total no. of BDS seats (15% All India quota): 161
Counseling (1st Round) from 15.06.07 to 26.06.07
Total number of candidates appearing in Delhi: 1353
Total number of candidates appearing in Puducherry: 199
Total number of candidates appearing in Kolkata: 129
Till last year, the counseling for the seats was done by personal appearance before the counseling committee constituted for this purpose in New Delhi. From this year onwards, it had been decided to conduct counseling through video conference connecting Delhi, Puducherry and Kolkata (Main counseling centre at Central Health Education Bureau, New Delhi, 2nd centre at JIPMER, Puducherry & 3rd centre at All India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health, Kolkata). The candidates have already exercised the option for personal appearance from any of the above three centres.
