The UNFPA is determined to improve the lot of women to include empowerment, maternal health and prevention of AIDS/HIV. The chief of UNFPA is of the opinion that the contribution of women to families and to the community as a whole translates as progress of the nation. Obviously when women are wronged, it shows in the health of the nation; Afghanistan bears testimony to the ills meted out to women.

Therefore, measures to empower and uplift women will benefit Afghanistan as a nation greatly. Putting an end to violence against women, by allowing the men to participate in such endeavors, will bring reprieve to the many who suffer violence silently.
