Couch potato parents make couch potato kids!

It is an extremely common sight to watch kids comfortably settled in a beanbag, hastily nibbling from a king size packet of wafers, and staring blankly// at a television or computer screen. At a time when they are meant to be full of beans, kids are seen opting for laidback activities.

Parents, undoubtedly, have a huge role to play in making or marring good habit formation, as children emulate parents in their ways. In the light of the alarming increase in childhood obesity, and the reason for many types of childhood illnesses, it would indeed do good to make physical activity and exercises an integral part of their lives.

If parents mingle with their kids and involve them in outdoor activities, children begin to imbibe the positive cues of physical activity. It is not absolutely necessary that all kids engage in competitive sport. Instead, even indulging in a 60-minute outdoor activity everyday will impact their health positively for life. Instead of encouraging indiscriminate television watching, even outdoor activities like gardening, walking the dog, will certainly help in ensuring more physical activity for our children
