A new technique thought to replace the conventional Pap smear was proved that it was not more reliable. This new technique, which made use of the liquid-based// cytology (LBC), was introduced across Scotland.

But researchers yesterday proved that this new technique is not more reliable than the older one.

The Scottish Executive of the health department assured that he would probe inside the issue. But he said till now this technique had been very fruitful and reduced tremendously the occurrence of false results.

This is especially very effective in giving accurate results to women.

In the new technique the sample is taken in a routine way very similar to the Pap smear. But it uses a brush to deposit the cells in the liquid and removes the other artifacts.

By doing so it was thought to increase the sensitivity of the test. On the other hand artifacts are no removed in the conventional technique.

The researchers at the Sydney University in Australia analysed 56 papers, which have studied 1.25 million slides and said that they have so far not provided any evidences to prove that this technique reduced the false positive results than the Pap smear, which was originally used.
