Previous studies on omega-3 fatty acids, has mainly focused on their benefits for heart and mental health, however a recent study done on rats adds //to the mounting evidence of Omega 3 and Omega –6 in human health.

Researchers say they have found that diets with a low ratio of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids minimized the bone loss typically brought on by the low levels of oestrogen in women after menopause. Researchers also say that a higher intake of omega-6 fatty acids leads to an increased production of compounds associated with bone loss.

In conclusion researchers say that their findings although yet to be confirmed in humans, could offer an important prevention strategy for osteoporosis.
