Consultation Conference to control HIV, TB and Malaria

The burden of HIV, malaria and Tuberculosis in most developing countries takes away most of the health resources. //The European Union, UNAIDS, WHO and the Indian Government is holding consultation to formulate prevention strategy against the diseases.

"These diseases mostly affect the poor countries and further aggravate their economic situation. We aim to share our experiences and develop strategies to combat the diseases in various countries," Mr.Alexander Spachis – the minister-counsellor, political affairs and co-ordination, at the EU's embassy, told reporters.

A four-day consultation conference called 'Confrontation HIV as well as Tuberculosis and Malaria: An Asia Stakeholders Consultation' begins in New Delhi on April 3.

Delegates will include public, private and civil society representatives from selected countries in Asia and the Pacific. The conference would provide a platform to various stakeholders to discuss how to strategize and achieve the best results.

The consultation conference aims to address issues such as prevention, diagnosis, treatment, care and support and systems issues in various concurrent sessions. The final outcome will result in a declaration that would identify regional targets for adaptation and action, he said.

"Experts would map the resources available for technical assistance and help combat these diseases from various countries including India," said Sangay Thinley from WHO's South-East Asia Regional Office.
