Conflict over Productivity Commission report on physicians referral

The Productivity Commission of Australia has recommended a report which makes possible the patients to directly consult a Medicare funded consultation with out referral from the physician. //

The Australian Divisions of General Practice (ADGP) has welcomed the report as they feel that the move will help to reduce the time for the patients in reaching a specialist and a consultation straightly with the specialist will help the present situation as there is a great shortage of physicians in Australia.

Australian Medical Association (AMA) which is a representation of General physicians is not happy with the committee reports as they feel that allowing ptients to directly consult a specialist without General practioners referral would not help in understanding correctly the status and severity of the disease of the patient.
