Condom vending machine to be started in Jharkand

Jharkand has 900 cases of AIDS and 35 people have died of it in the last three years. Unofficial estimates, however, put the number of deaths at more than 100 and more than 2,000 full-blown AIDS cases. The increase //in AIDS patients in Jharkand is increased due to very low awareness in Jharkand.

Jharkand plans to open condom booths in public places to reduce the transmission of risk of HIV spread. This new attempt to open the condom booths will help to educate people on the use of safe sex. The new condom booths are to be opened in cinema halls, petrol pumps, lodges and markets across the state. The State Aids Control Society (SACO) of Jharkand said, "The idea to open condom booths is for safe sex. Have sex but do it safely”. The SACO, official said that "By opening such booths we want to promote use of condoms, particularly among the younger generation and the truck drivers. The use of condoms will minimize the threat of HIV infection."

The booths will be made user friendly and will be operational 24 hours a day and the first booth is to be started in the district of Bokaro. Earlier, these condoms were only sold in pharmacies and people are shy over buying these condoms from the shop, and the use of these vending machines will increase the use of condoms and the cost of condom packet will be Rs. 5.
