Collaborations planned between British Organization and Indian health care industry

The United Kingdom Trade and Investment’s (UKTI) is looking for collaboration and interaction with Indian Health care Hospitals. The Confederation of Indian Industry, CII had meetings with UKTI for new collaborations between // British organizations and Indian Health care providers.

David Hawkins of UKTI had discussion with Leading Indian health care providers such as Apollo Hospitals, KG Hospital and Trivitron Medical systems for providing new ventures and collaborations in services and manufacturing. Accreditation was a major discussion point, as in India only the Apollo group; Metropolis and Ranbaxy had the required international accreditation.

The British deputy High commissioner, Mike Connor talked about the strengths and growth of Indian Health care systems and he praised the health care innovations of Chennai and South India. He recalled about Mary Ann Dacomb Scharlieb who is the first female doctor, who qualified from the Madras Medical School in 1878, a time when women were not allowed to train as doctors in Britain. “The Madras Medical School (now college) continued this tradition when the first Indian woman doctor graduated from the same school just a few years later," Connor said.

Chairman of the healthcare sub-committee of CII's southern region G. Bakthavathsalam called for "partnerships in technology transfer and clinical trials" and said that Britain's Royal College of Surgeons had chosen a medical college hospital in Coimbatore for research partnership.
