Coffee lovers: Here is news to cheer, Coffee may lower diabetes

All the lovers of coffee, it as been found in a study that drinking coffee may lower diabetes risk. //

But the catch is that consumption should be moderate. Its moderate consumption every day may lower risk of type-2 diabetes in younger and middle-aged women.

Previous studies in US had linked drinking more than two cups of coffee or tea a day with reduction in high risk of chronic liver disease.

This new study by Harvard School of Public Health researchers in Boston, have linked drinking coffee to a decreased risk of type-2 diabetes. The study appears in the health portal News-Medical.

The statistical relation that springs from the study is that one cup of coffee a day equated to a 13 percent reduction of type 2 diabetes risk, compared with 42 percent reduction for two to three cups a day and 47 percent reduction for four or more cups a day.

The researchers of the study Dr. Rob M. van Dam and his colleague Dr Hu examined the association between coffee consumption and risk of type-2 diabetes. The study sample was a group of 88,259 women in the US enrolled in the long term Nurses Health Study.

"More research needs to be done to clarify the link between drinking coffee and the risk of type-2 diabetes," is what they said as a cautionary statement.
