Based on findings of a recent study researchers say that the circadian rhythms, the body's biological processes that repeat in 24-hour cycles , can significantly impact lung function and help determine peak times to exercise // or receive medical treatments .

During the study changes in lung function between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m were examined. Results from the five-year study, which tracked 4,835 patients undergoing breathing tests at various times of the day, showed lung function was at its lowest at 12:00 p.m. and at its best between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

According to researchers, these results help determine the best times to exercise and can even affect how a person takes their medication. Researchers say late afternoon, when lung capacity is at its highest, may be the best time to exercise. Also, people with asthma and pulmonary diseases, who usually administer medication around the clock, may need more or less of their medication depending on the time of day.

Researchers say that Circadian rhythms can greatly influence how patients with respiratory conditions respond to certain therapies ,thus by knowing how the respiratory system naturally responds at different times during the day, healthcare providers can adapt treatments and procedures to better fit patients' individual needs.
