Cigarette companies jack up nicotine content in cigarettes, thwarting smoking-cessation initiatives. Indeed many steps retrograde//, and a true mockery of the smoking bans by many nations, inclusion of graphic warnings on cigarettes and other initiatives, as companies increase the nicotine levels in the cigarettes, on the sly, in a bid to ensure the patronage of customers.
A unique study, the first of its kind undertaken to gauge the levels of nicotine in cigarettes has revealed the sharp rise in the levels of nicotine content in cigarettes, devised to crush the will of a person to quit smoking.
The state Department of Public Health has indicated that the amount of nicotine going into the lungs from cigarettes has gone up by 10 percent. Surprisingly, the ones branded ‘light’ turn out to be quite strong, to lure the customer with the extra punch.
Lois Keithly, director of the Massachusetts Tobacco Control Program ``We in public health have tried to spend a lot of time figuring out why people don't stop smoking. It is more difficult to quit when there is a higher amount of nicotine in the cigarette."
The tobacco makers are tight lipped about this finding, refusing to comment on it.
