Chronic Pain And Depression Cured By Music Therapy – Study Find

A new research, on music therapy found that up to 21% of chronic pain and depression by up to 25%, were reduced by music therapy//.

Music listening, controls pain and makes people feel more comfortable, less disabled by their condition.

About 60 people, with an average age of 50, who were from pain and chiropractic clinics were participated in the controlled clinical trial run by team of researchers.

Those people suffered nearly 6 years from rheumatoid arthritis and disc problems -- painful conditions, affecting more than one part of the body.

Listening to music an hour / per day for 7 days was found to improve physical and psychological signs when compared to the control group.

‘The people who took part in the music groups listened to music on a headset for an hour a day and everyone who took part, including the control group, kept a pain diary’, explained researcher, Dr Sandra L. Siedlecki of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio.

Dr Sandra L. Siedlecki of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, explained all people participated kept a pain diary and the first music group were allowed to choose their own favourite music, while the second music group chose from five relaxing rhythms selected by the researchers. Previously used recordings like piano, jazz and orchestra tapes, were been used this time too.

The music groups reported about 12 and 21% of the pain being reduced and also reported 19 - 25% less depression at the end of the trial, whereas an increase in pain of 1 - 2% were noticed among the control group.

Dr Siedlecki said that he found a statistically significant reduced effect of pain, depression and disability on the two experimental groups when compared to the controls.

Adding value to many previous studies on music therapy, this too proved its positive effect on body and modern lifestyle diseases.
