Cholera Outbreak in Angola: 652 Infected and 22 Dead

An outbreak of cholera was first reported in the Luanda province of Angola on the 13th of February. Since then, nearly 652 cases of cholera// and 22 cholera related deaths have been reported in the state.

According to the latest health report published by the World Health Organization, 101 new cholera and cases and 4 deaths have been reported over the past 24 hours. 8 municipalities have been reported to be affected by the deadly disease.

The presence of Vibrio cholera 01 serotype INABA, the causative organism of cholera have been confirmed in 9 out of the 13 samples tested by the National Laboratory of Public Health. The WHO, in collaboration with the Angolan Ministry of Health and other health partners is involved in the development of field activities to restrict the spread of cholera.
