Chinese surgeons have successfully separated a conjoined twin girls in Shanghai but one of them is still critical, a report said today//.

One of the conjoined twin girls remains in critical condition and doctors are trying all out to help her live through her critical period after they were successfully separated in a hospital in Shanghai on Thursday.

The 11-month conjoined twin girls, Hu Jingxuan and Chen Jingni were separated during an operation lasting nearly 13 hours at the Children's Hospital affiliated to Fudan University in Shanghai.

Chen Jingni has spontaneous breath with the help of a respirator, and is in steady condition. But Hu Jingxuan's condition is unsteady and she is under emergency treatment in an intensive care unit, Xinhua news agency reported.

The girls come from Taizhou, east China's Zhejiang Province. They shared a liver and a digestive tract before the surgery and have congenital heart disease, doctors said.

Although the operation was successful, the girls still face many challenges to survive, such as the failure of internal organs after the surgery, they said.

Seventy doctors and nurses have been taking care of the two girls in the hospital.
