In a study published in the Journal of American Medical Association, researchers said that children who are obese // might have a poor quality of life.

The study conducted by Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Australia, had compared the quality of life between obese children with non-obese children of the same age. The results of the study say that obese children are more likely to become overweight as adults and may be more at a risk for cardiac disease, diabetes, arthritis and cancer. Moreover, their self- image may be poor than their non-obese counterparts leading to low self-confidence and lack of self-esteem.

The researchers had used a quality of life test called PedsQL 4.0 survey for about 2000 children in the age group of 5 to 10 yrs for over three years in order to establish a relationship between being overweight and change in quality of life. The test compiled scores on total health, physical and psychosocial well being of the children through self- report and report of the parents.

Childhood obesity is a growing problem of most countries as more and more children are getting used to a junk food diet and a sedentary life style.
