A new study conducted in Australia by the NSW Centre for Overweight and Obesity, has shown some disconcerting findings on the eating habits of Australian children //.

In one of the largest study of its kind, their findings show many kids quite frequently miss meals. The researchers interviewed as many as 5,500 primary and secondary school children about what they ate and drank.

They conducted this study to look into the conditions that could affect the weight and the effects on their health. The researchers found that almost one quarter of the school children were overweight or obese. They further noted hat many of those children often miss having food at regular intervals, or would many a times skip meals, including their lunch and dinner.

The research authors concerned about the results said that, the study shows that one in five secondary students are already showing the first signs of health problems from being overweight.

Meanwhile in the US there is increasing concern about the new study that shows that obesity in adolescents is related with reduced heart functions and excessive cardiac mass. Dr Giovanni de Simone of Federico II University Hospital School of Medicine, Naples, carried out the research explained that obese kids tend to become hypertensive and that combination could get pretty overwhelming.

Dr de Simone's and his team of researchers carried out their studies on 460 adolescents from American Indian communities in Arizona, Oklahoma, North Dakota and South Dakota, examining their heart dimensions and functions, and they noted that 113 were overweight and 223 obese, while some 110 had high-normal blood pressure, 27 of them had high blood pressure and ten were diagnosed with diabetes.
