The prices of live chicken and eggs appear to have scaled up following the improvement in chicken consumption, after the initial fear of a bird flu outbreak abated.//

According to an official of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), “There has been some improvement in the movement of these commodities to Kerala markets as well as within the state in the last four days. Poultry consumption too has increased.”

The Palladam-based Broiler Coordination Committee (BCC) has increased the farm gate price for a live bird from the rock bottom price of Rs 15 per kg last week to Rs 22 per kg. The prices are further expected to go up to Rs 28. The broiler price will soon touch Rs 35 a kg shortly.

In the case of table eggs, NECC has fixed the procurement price at 85 paise, a 20 paise enhancement from what was last week. The rate is expected to go up. The export of eggs is yet to show improvement as the West Asian Counties are still following the ban.
